Discover HIFU

Wrinkles, creases, and sagging skin. They come to us all in the end, but, amazingly, you no longer have to rely on a surgeon and a scalpel to restore smooth and youthful features. HIFU turns back time, lifting, firming and tightening the skin with no invasive surgery.

The Collagen Question

Is the word collagen familiar? It’s crucial for healthy skin, a natural protein that replaces dead skin cells and helps new ones to grow. It actually makes up 30% of our body’s total proteins, which begs the question: if collagen is so plentiful, why do we try to top it up through products, treatments and supplements?

Collagen doesn’t stay with us forever. It depletes as we age, depriving our skin of structure, integrity and elasticity. Our skin can no longer bounce back – it settles into wrinkles and sags down from the face. This is where products and supplements come in, containing collagen to restore our low supplies. However, some treatments, like HIFU, can actually teach the body to kick-start production!

How HIFU Works

HIFU can unlock a brand-new store of collagen. It stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, energy that the practitioner directs at the targeted area. The ultrasound penetrates the epidermis without affecting it, going straight to the deeper layers of the skin. It then causes the structural layers to heat up, causing minor cellular damage. As strange as it sounds, this is actually a good thing as collagen rushes to the area to heal the trauma. It tightens and firms, invisible on the surface save for fewer lines and wrinkles. What’s more, the collagen will continue to make improvements for up to 12 weeks post-treatment!

This is just one way HIFU can imitate surgical results. The ultrasound can reach the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS), previously accessible only by surgery. Without even breaking the skin, the ultrasound focuses on specific contact points throughout the SMAS, causing the whole layer to contract. The muscles tighten, firming and lifting the skin for an impressive reversal of the ageing process. From the brow to the neck, the hand to the chest, a course of HIFU can transform your face and body.

With Christopher Maerevoet

Is it painful? Where can I have it? Is there much downtime?

We talk you through every detail of the experience in a one-on-one appointment, making sure you are happy and confident with every part of the process. However, let us answer some of the questions we most anticipate.

HIFU is not actually painful. Instead, you will experience sensations of heat and electricity, which is described as a series of tiny pulses. As the treatment is non-invasive, there’s virtually no downtime, which means you can go about your day as soon as you’ve left our clinic. We’ll give you comprehensive advice on aftercare, which consists of simple ways to make the most of your rejuvenation, from drinking lots of water to avoiding hot showers.

At Christopher Maerevoet, we tailor each treatment to the individual. If you’d benefit from a combination of treatments, we can give you Radiofrequency Microneedling and HIFU, treating every layer of the skin with gold standard technology.
